12-Step Approach

The goal of encouraging our men to have a 12-step community is to help them build the foundation of a support network that will help them with their long-term recovery.

The 12-step approach to addiction recovery provides purpose and direction for people overcoming substance use disorders (SUDs). Sunset House in Palm Beach, Florida, requires men to participate in local 12-step groups focused on recovery from their substance use disorder. We know that recovery requires hard work, and the 12-step approach helps men who complete treatment with us maintain their sobriety in life.

Our team is dedicated to helping men living with substance use disorders rediscover their purpose so they can become better husbands, brothers, fathers, and family members. The road to healthier futures relies on commitment and diligence, which is why we encourage our clients to build personal connections with one another as they work through the 12 steps and our evidence-based treatment methods. Accessing the 12-Step Program in Florida

Residents of Florida can find many 12-step programs in their local area. These meetings are often hosted by a variety of organizations, such as Alcoholics Anonymous (AA), Narcotics Anonymous (NA), and other self-help support groups. The venues can range from churches to health centers to community service groups, but all have the same goal: helping people in recovery stay sober while learning how to cope with arising triggers and cravings.

The greater Palm Beach, Florida, area has a wealth of 12-step meetings to choose from that take place throughout the day and night, and all week long. We also host an on-campus AA meeting each Friday night. Clients of Sunset House are required to attend a minimum of four meetings each week, to have a home group among these, to have a sponsor, and to complete step work.

Our Men's 12-Step Treatment Program

We believe that the 12-step approach offers a practical and experience-driven method of personal development and positive change. When coupled with evidence-based clinical therapies in group and individual settings, men come to know lasting recovery.

Some of the evidence-based therapies we employ include:

Fostering Community in Our Florida Treatment Center

Our campus includes several shared housing units where men learn to live together, cook together, and clean together. Included in our expectations of our clients is that they treat their living quarters with care and respect, keeping them clean and supportive of recovery. We have onsite laundry facilities and a shared food pantry stocked with staples that augment what the men purchase for themselves.

Though fellowship isn’t a requirement of life at Sunset House, it’s practically unavoidable. Our men routinely prepare and enjoy their meals together. While their individual and group therapy sessions are teaching men vital recovery skills, these occasions of fellowship provide them with opportunities to practice what they’ve learned, including honesty, accountability, integrity, and empathy. Not to mention, the men are forging relationships and friendships that could last a lifetime.
